Background
Recombinant Human Parathyroid Hormone, 1-84a.a. is a full-length replica of the endogenous Parathyroid hormone molecule, which consists of an amino (N)-terminal structure (first 34 amino acids) and a carboxyl (C)-terminal structure (last 50 amino acids). Full-length recombinant human parathyroid hormone [rhPTH (1-84); Natpara] is approved in the USA as an adjunct to calcium and vitamin D therapy for control of hypocalcaemia in patients with hypoparathyroidism. Parathyroid Hormone regulates calcium and phosphorus levels by acting on the bone, kidneys and intestines. In the bone, Parathyroid hormone mobilizes calcium and phosphorus into the circulation by stimulating bone resorption. Parathyroid hormone stimulates osteoblasts to increase the expression of receptor activator of nuclear factor j-B ligand (RANKL)[1].
